Whether its because of cost, timing, or some other issue, not all newlyweds choose to go on a honeymoon. But if you can, do it. After all the stress and work of planning your wedding and the hoopla of the big day itself you'll need some time away to recover. And it will great to have some time alone together before the responsibilities of real life kick in.
Here are a few tips to help you plan a honeymoon to remember: - Start saving early. Even if you don't decide on a destination until later, add 'honeymoon expense' to your list. If you don't work it into your savings from the start you may wind uo short in the end.
- Take an evening to sit down with your significant other and discuss possible destinations. Do you want to spend your honeymoon sat a ski resort, a cattle ranch or a tropical island? Make sure you're both on the same page before booking anything.
- Watch out for the weather. The Caribean is beautiful, but it can be risky during hurricane season. You may want to go for an island like Aruba, which is south of the hurricane belt.
- Use a travel agent. They can usually get the best packages and you have enough to plan for the wedding without having to worry about comparing hotel rates and coordinating flights.
- If you are traveling out of the country make sure your passports are current. Familiarize yourself with local laws and determine if you need any additional paperwork.
- Take extra spending cash with you. In addition to meals and activities, you are bound to come home with lots of souveniers. You don't want to be counting pennies on your honeymoon.
- When making reservations at hotels or restaurants make sure to tell them you are honeymooning. Most places will give you a little VIP treatment. The hotel might bump you up to a more expensive room or will at least provide some complimentary champagne. Most restaurants give honeymooning couples some free drinks or dessert. And be sure to ask for one of their best tables. They often save the seats with the best view for honeymooners.
- Don't overdo it. While activities and sightseeing can be fun, be sure to reserve some open time in your schedule for sitting back and relaxing. You've earned it!
