Wedding Attire

Choosing what everyone will where can be one of the funnest parts of planning a wedding. The bride usually goes shopping with her bridesmaids for their dresses. They get to try on different styles and offer their opinions, but in the end it is the bride's decision.  Hopefully she picks something that all the girls like. After all, they'll each be expected to drop from one to several hundred doallars on their bridesmaid dress.

Some brides have been known to choose a dress that is not particularly flattering for their bridesmaids in an attempt to make themsleves look better by comparison. But a bride with confidence will choose a dress that lets her girls shine. If she has a really kind heart, she'll choose something they'll be able to wear again to another function. Most women who have been bridesmaids have at least one dress that they paid a good deal of money for but will never wear again.

For the guys the decision is a little bit easier. If you're sticking to standard tuxedoes there's not much to choose at all. Often the groom will wear a different colored tie or vest than his groomsman. For example, the groom may wear a black tux with a silver tie and vest while the groomsman wear all black.

A bow tie is a little more formal than a standard necktie but it can also be considered a little stuffy.

The bride's gown is certainly the biggest decision to be made when it comes to wedding attire. White, off-white or another color? Veil or no veil? trapless? Long train or none at all?

There are styles for just about everyone ad you should look at as many as possible to find exactly what you want. Browse through bridal magazines and websites and cut out pictures of dresses you would consider. Then you can take them to the bridal shop as an example of what you want.

Be sure to try on several dresses before making your decision. You'll be the center of attention as you walk down the aisle and you'll want everything to be perfect.

For second weddings and civil ceremonies, couples often like to keep things simple. In that case a nice suit and a pretty dress will do.

And what about other non-traditional wedding locations? A wedding gown would hardly be appropriate for a pair of skydivers getting married right before they make the big plunge from a plane!

A more likely scenario would be a casual wedding on the beach, in which case we'd suggest a pair of khakis and a light white shirt for the gentleman and sundresses for the ladies. The beach is likely the only place you could get away with wearing flip-flops at your wedding!
